1. Great thoughts on the “spiritual leader”. I’ve been waiting for someone with a microphone to say that for a long time. As spouses grow in different ways, at different times and rates they should each be an influence on the other.
2. Like “spiritual leader”, “Head of the house” or “head of the home” is not in the bible either. This is a tax filing status for American households. However, “head of the Wife” in the Ephesian passage is in the bible and speaks of the symbiotic relationship of connectedness and interdependence between a husband and wife and is mapped to the one-body of Christ’s body–the church. The husband is not one with his estate, property, children, slaves, etc., the husband is to be one with his wife as Christ is one with his body, the church for whom he sacrificed for and nourishes and cherishes.
3. It’s good to hear others noticing that all Believers, both male and female, have a responsibility for our family. The law would not absolve a mother who did not provide for her children because she was not male.
4. I found it very odd that the primary function outlined in the passage “to agape his wife as Christ agaped the church” was not one of the options on the poll. It’s seems the point was missed altogether.
Great Points all! Someone else with a mic before me had said the point about spiritual leader – so I do think others realize it! I meant to say “head of the wife”…lol…and that point is right on – the symbolism of ‘the body’ again.
