I believe that it was author and pastor Rob Bell who really nailed this thought for me.

Check this out:

The Bible is a story about a God who actively Loves people into their future.

He Gave his Son Jesus, first…because he loved us so much.

Pretty cool deal.

Yet, we don’t do that so well.

We get caught up in what they didn’t do yesterday, or last week, or when we first started dating…and we hold on to it.

How can we get into the future with all this baggage?

What if we loved someone into the awesome future of our marriage?

It’s that whole Sacrificial Love Thing.

Its that whole Forgiving and Forgetting Thing

Its that whole Having a Vision for the Future of Your Marriage Thing

Thinking the best about your mate allows you to sacrifice, allows you to forgive and allows you to envision what you two will be doing together in 50 plus years.

That’s a very cool thing.

Ladies -

Guys love “Respect”. If they think you don’t respect them, they won’t easily love in return.

But its a vicious circle…If you respect, he will begin to love you more (the way you want to be loved), in return, you will respect him more… the cycle works the other way though too.

If he has not loved you well, you won’t respect him as much, and he will in turn, love you less, how you want and need to be loved.

So, try to stop the cycle.

Show him respect!

I first heard Emerson Eggerichs (such a cool name) talk about this a couple years back.

You can read his book on it too. ( I really need to read it, it has been awhile since I heard his talk!)
